Did you know that roasted garlic is like, the best thing ever? No? Well, allow me to enlighten you.
This stuff is like candy. Melt in your mouth candy. It can be eaten straight, spread on fresh bread or crackers (see below) as a super low-cost appetizer. It can be used as a topping for pizza, or even spread as the base/sauce. It can be thrown into bread to make a roasted garlic and peppercorn bread. It can be used in hummus. It can be added to mashed potatoes, roasted vegetables, or used in soups, stews, pot roasts, etc.

Great. Now let’s talk about how cheap it is. Because the gigantic bag in the pictures below cost me a whopping $3.
Finally, it’s incredibly easy. You need two ingredients: 1) garlic and 2) olive oil. For equipment, you’ve probably seen “garlic roasters” in kitchen stores before, and they’re great if you want to roast one or two heads of garlic. But really, they’re not needed. Any type of baking dish, or even just tin foil works just as great. The garlic takes about 35 minutes to get tender enough to use, but I like mine to be a little caramelized, so I roast it for at least an hour.
To summarize: versatile, cheap, easy. AKA: Best. Thing. Ever.
How To: Roasted Garlic
Ingredients
- garlic whole heads
- olive oil
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 425°F.
- Slice the tops of the heads of garlic so that each clove is exposed. Drizzle with olive oil.
- Place in a baking pan and cover with tin foil, or just wrap with tin foil.
- Bake in preheated oven for 45 minutes to an hour, or until garlic is tender, fragrant and starting to brown/caramelize on top.
