We all have foods we like. And foods we hate. And foods that make us go, “meh”. And then there are the foods we LOVE. And I mean L-O-V-E. The foods that if you were on death row and were requesting your last meal, they would all be on your list. Here’s mine:
1. Balsamic vinegar. I told hubby the other day that I would drink this stuff. He got the most disgusted look on his face and told me that I was gross. And I get that you probably feel the same way. But it’s not your L-O-V-E food. It’s mine. You’re allowed to say weird things about your own L-O-V-E food and I won’t judge you one bit.
2. French baguette. I’m talking fresh stuff. I will eat baguettes plain. Any time of day or night. And I haven’t even had the good stuff from France (which is on my to-do list). When I do, I’m sure I won’t be able to stomach the stuff here.
3. Raw oysters. I realize that they don’t have much flavor on their own. And I realize that the texture probably grosses most people out. And to be honest, I couldn’t explain to you why I love these so much. But I do. So just accept it, okay?
4. Roasted garlic. Warning: You will be condemned to sleep on the couch for the night after having eaten roasted garlic, but it’s so worth it. This, spread on a fresh baguette, is like a piece of paradise on your plate. Enough said.
5. Chèvre (goat cheese). I get obsessive with my L-O-V-E foods. Goat cheese is no exception. I put this stuff on every salad I make (poor hubby). De. Li. Cious.

May 24, 2011 at 7:06 amTop 5… first of all kudos for being able to be so decisive in picking 5 to be at the top… my love for food in general makes it so hard to choose but I’m gonna give it a shot.
1. I have to give it up to you on the balsamic! Its an obesssion… so far my absolute favorite is to mix it with dijon mustard and dip bread or pour over spinach.
2. No question garlic dill pickles have to make the list. There is never a bad time to eat a pickle if you’re me~ One time when I was a kid my mom accidentally made spicy garlic pickles… I’m still searching for that recipe!
3. Raw salmon – mmmmmm its hard to say much more about it… the texture and the subtle flavor, I have been known to secretly eat copious amounts of this delicious treat.
4. feta stuffed banana peppers – creamy salty cheese, spicy peppers…my mouth is watering thinking of how to make you like them too!
5. coconut curry soup – Max and I have discussed going on a strict diet of curry soup on more than 1 occasion! Other than pickles I could give up all else and live on this soup alone.

May 31, 2011 at 11:33 pmOkay, as another person commented, it is Extremely difficult to narrow foods down – I love food, period. Maybe if we categorized? Like your top five veggies; or your top five proteins? top junk food snacks (are they allowed a category?); top five herbs? Sigh, I am having such a dilemma. I just can’t do it Captain! Therefore I will make a list of my top five vegetables as a post because right now I’m planting them in my greenhouse and garden so they are really on my mind.
1. Asparagus – I didn’t eat this growing up. I was so deprived. It is good raw, pickled, sauteed, broiled, my garden asparagus is growing as we speak!!! You cannot compare store-bought asparagus to fresh garden – it’s actually illegal.
2. Beets – Again, deprivation as a child. I only ate beets pickled. Do you know how versatile they are? You can bake them like a potato. You can boil them and eat them hot with dripping butter, or cool them and eat them chunked in a salad. You can fry them in butter and garlic. Or, roast them in the oven drizzled with olive oil. Mmmmm. Oh, oh, and you can make Beet Rolls with the leaves!!
3. Potatoes. Oven roasted. Baked. Garlic Mashed. French Fries. Amen. That’s all I’m going to say about Les Pomme de Terre.
4. Onions. They, like garlic, are the zip and zing of so many recipes! Sauteed onions on a burger; thick sliced grilled onions brushed with olive oil; raw chopped white onion on a hot dog; and Onion Rings?? French onion soup??
5. Last, but most definitely not least – Garlic. Both a vegetable and a herb – so I learned from Answers.com. I could not live without garlic. Okay, I could barely life without garlic. It completes me.

June 7, 2011 at 6:02 pmYou should live in France. Really. Baguettes here do NOT compare. A fresh, flaky baguette with soft, creamy chevre (goat cheese)…I’m not sure there is anything better. They love balsamic vinegar and raw oysters in France, too. I think you may have been born in the wrong country. :)
Have you tried reduced balsamic vinegar? I sounds like it should be delicious, but I’ve never bothered to make it.

June 8, 2011 at 6:22 pmAgree with all in that this was impossible to narrow down. The only thing that helped define mine was that whole death row what would you request thing. So here’s my L O V E five.
1) Chocolate cupcakes – small decadent perfectly rich bites of heaven. obsessed is an understatement. These babies are the reason for my doughy body.
2) Brie – smooth, buttery and utterly irresistable.
3) Mussels – smothered in a a white wine lemon and garlic butter sauce… need I say more.
4) Guacamole – could eat this in buckets. everyday. especially hot days.
5) Garlic – it’s on all our lists. Life without garlic would be flavorless.
