Chocolate Football Sugar Cookies – Super Bowl Treat

Mrs. Finkle
would approve of these cookies. After all, the laces are out!

With Super Bowl less than a week away, my mind is on football, and the pressure is on. Coming up with game day treats shouldn’t be difficult or exhausting. These cookies freeze well, so they can be made ahead of time and brought out Sunday. How’s that for stress free?

I didn’t have a football shaped cookie cutter, so I made my own using an aluminum can. Just cut out a strip about an inch thick, fold in half, and tape the open end together. You have to guide it a little bit as you cut each cookie to try and keep a consistent football (some of mine are rather oblong, and others are fat as can be), but overall it works like a charm. I used the same method when making homemade goldfish crackers.

I piped the laces on with homemade buttercream, but if you’re pinched for time, the store bought would be just as good. I was worried that these would be too chocolatey (if there is such a thing?), but with the icing, they were the perfect amount of sweet.
