I’m a crisp kind of girl. If you offered me a big slab of chocolate cake, or a bowl of warm fruit crisp with ice cream, I would pick the crisp. Hands down, no questions asked, no exceptions. Ever.
Okay, except for when I was pregnant…then I would have just taken both.
Warm apple crisp tastes like heaven in my mouth. I don’t know if it’s the oatmeal, the spices, the fruit, or just all of it? Probably all of it.
I find that because of their tartness, Granny Smith apples make the best crisps and pies, but any kind of apple will still be delicious.
Not only is this a yummy dessert, but it’s a great breakfast too, right? I mean apples, cinnamon, oats. It’s basically like you’re eating a bowl of oatmeal. Don’t let anyone tell you differently.
Apple Crisp
Servings: 6 servings
Ingredients
- 4 Granny Smith apples peeled, cored, and cubed or thinly sliced
- 1/3 cup white sugar
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1/4 cup water
- 1 cup quick-cooking oats
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 cup butter melted
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease an 8x8 inch pan.
- In a medium bowl, toss apples with white sugar, 1/2 tsp cinnamon, and water. Spread into baking dish.
- In a medium bowl, combine the oats, flour, brown sugar, 1/2 tsp cinnamon, baking powder, baking soda, and melted butter. Stir until crumbly. Spread evenly over the apple mixture.
- Bake in preheated oven for 45 minutes, or until browned. Serve warm with ice cream.
